More will be revealed. That’s the phrase I hear when I reflect on the week I spent in the Sandia mountains with 40 strangers of like heart. There was laughter, plenty tears, healing, high energy and kind tending. Much gratitude to @davidelliott10 for his work and guidance. Been thinking about what home means for me lately. Having spent so little time at my actual home this year. After a lovely time with friends and family a month or so ago, it was affirmed that I find home in my relationships. Home is an afternoon on the Highline walking and sharing with a friend, midweek brunch in brooklyn, celebrating Virgo b’earthdays with my mom & aunt, laughing poolside with friends... all of that and more. I’m also considering how I’m home to all that I am and want to be. Or not. Have others considered their relationship with me home? How can I welcome all of me. Reclamation. After nearly a decade of serving a Dharma community and almost two years after a move across the country, my formal meditation practice is beginning to feel like it’s mine. It isn’t associated with work or obligation to others, it’s not performative. It’s a refuge, solitary, healing, all-over-the-place and it’s for me. Every morning while we’re in Tucson, Brisco and I walk what I call the Golden River because in the spring it’s covered in bright yellow flowers from the palo verde trees (my favorite tree), and now the river is a dark gold-bronze color. It’s my morning contemplation time; just me, Brisco, the mountains, the desert. Sometimes I find myself in a breathless daze of what-ifs and will-it-always-be-this-ways and am-i-doing-this-rights and realize I’m bracing for the next thing to fall/breakthrough/breakdown. That makes for atrophy. In this heart. The suppleness falls away, the air is dry and cracks form. And I realize that it’s part of This Life lesson to fall into the soft places, to breathe, to cry, to notice the magic of the sun and shadows on the kitchen floor. How this too shall pass. How wool keeps me warm on cold desert morning walks. And I fall wearily into my own budding tenderness. And try/breathe/be again. One moment at a time. Winter hit me like a ton of bricks this month. Even with these mild desert days. So more puzzles (this is gonna be a long one), less gym, earlier to bed and later to rise, fires in the fireplace, baking, good books and fresh ginger-turmeric-lemon-honey tea....going in. I’m so thankful I listen to my body and Mama Earth on how to live easefully thru the seasons. I’m thankful I no longer listen to capitalist ways of being that tell me I have to be constantly productive to be of worth. I’m also thankful for the return of light and the beauty of the winter.
